DISCIPLE Schedule for 2017-2018
What is DISCIPLE Bible Study?Disciple Bible Study is a program of intensive, disciplined Bible study. Each study group is made up of 12-14 participants led by one or two facilitators. Groups meet weekly for 2.5 hours for 34 weeks. Disciple I, the prerequisite for all other Disciple Bible Studies, covers the entire Biblical story, from Genesis to Revelation. Subsequent studies take Disciple graduates deeper into selected portions of Scripture. Westminster will be offering DISCIPLE l, ll and lV for the fall and spring semesters.
DISCIPLE l: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study
This study group moves through the biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem. Completion of DISCIPLE l is a prerequisite to all other studies.
DISCIPLE ll: Into The Word Into the World
This study group builds on biblical knowledge gained through the overview of the Bible in DISCIPLE I and deepends biblical understanding by reading Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts in their entirety.
Disciple III: Remembering Who You Are
The driving idea in this study is the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. The word You in the title is meant to be heard both in its singular form (the individual) and its plural form (the community). We are a community of memory. Participants in this 32 week study will read the major and minor Old Testament prophets, with the exception of Daniel, and will read the thirteen Letters traditionally attributed to Paul. To establish the historical context in which the prophets spoke for God, daily reading assignments draw also on the books of Deuteronomy through Chronicles.
DISCIPLE lV: Under The Tree Of Life
This study group covers the writings (Old Testament books not in the Torah or the Prophets), the Gospel of John and Revelation. Addresses community and individual life. Offering an overview of the Psalms with a Psalm of the week. Showing the distinctive character of the Gospel of John.
